Trusting God’s Timing While Waiting: A Lesson I Learned From My Son
Feb 03, 2026
Have you ever found yourself waiting on something and quietly wondering if it’s ever going to happen? My adult son is now 32 years old—where does the time go? I spent most of my life raising him as a single mother, and along the way, this young man taught me more lessons than I can count, many of them without even realizing it.
One lesson, in particular, still comes back to me often… especially in seasons when waiting feels hard.
A Simple Plan (and an Unexpected Lesson)
When Xavier was in the fourth grade, I loved having lunch with him and his friends. What mom doesn’t want to sit at a table full of fourth graders and hear what they’re talking about?
One morning, I told him I’d be coming to school to have lunch with him again. Just to be safe, we made a Plan B.
The plan was simple:
• He would wait for me at our “special” table
• If I wasn’t there five minutes after lunch started, he would go ahead and eat
That day, everything slowed me down.
Traffic crawled. Stoplights felt stuck on red forever. I was rushing down the highway, frustrated and anxious, trying to do everything I could to get there on time.
When I finally arrived, I hurried into the school, hoping I hadn’t missed him. There he was—sitting at our table, smiling up at me.
I said, “Son, remember I told you to eat if I wasn’t here five minutes after your lunch started?”
He replied, “Yes… but I knew you would be here.”
That moment stayed with me. Without realizing it, my son taught me a powerful lesson about trust—one I still have to remind myself of today.
Why We Create a Plan B (and Why God Doesn’t Need One)
So often, we create a Plan B because we’re afraid Plan A won’t happen. But with God, there is no need for a backup plan. God does what He says He will do.
Things may not happen the way we expect or on the timeline we prefer, but God’s timing is always perfect.
Waiting isn’t easy.
Waiting requires faith.
But waiting often positions us to receive something better than what we would have settled for if we rushed ahead.
If You’re in a Waiting Season Right Now…
Wherever you are today, I want to encourage you to trust the process. What God has promised will happen—at just the right time.
Practical Takeaways: How to Trust God While You Wait
- Notice where you’re tempted to create a Plan B.
- Stay faithful in the small steps.
- Look back before you look ahead.
- Choose patience over settling.
A Final Word of Encouragement
God sees you.
He hasn’t forgotten you.
And He’s never late.
